Born Karol Jozef Wojtyla, John Paul II was elected Pope on 16 October 1978 to become the 264th pope of the Roman Catholic Church, the first Polish pope ever and the first non-Italian to fill the post in 455 years.
Credited with revolutionising the papacy, John Paul II was the most-travelled pope in history, with some 170 visits to over 115 countries over the past 20 years, more than any of his predecessors. Befittingly, he was named the Time Magazine’s “Man of the Year 1994” and was the only pope that had his biography featured in a comic book. Such was the extraordinary popularity of this humble yet outspoken spiritual leader who was unafraid to voice his vision of a better world.
Pope John Paul II’s most lasting legacy would be his tireless effort to rouse humankind to embrace the dignity and responsibility of defending human rights. His strength, determination, faith and tolerance were marks of a man who truly lived by his apostolic motto Totus Tuus which means "totally yours".
His Holiness was God’s gift to mankind. Though he has left us, he will continue to inspire and guide us to make this world a better place for all man.
17 May 2000: Mr. Vijay Eswaran, CEO & Group Managing Director of QI Ltd, and Mr. Joseph Bismark, Managing Director of Quest Leisure Ltd, paid a courtesy visit to His Holiness Pope John Paul II. We received His blessings for the Pope John Paul II Commemorative Coin, issued by the Knights of Malta – Sovereign Order of the Hospitaller’s of St. John of Jerusalem to commemorate the Jubilaeum 2000 and the 80th birthday of His Holiness. On this occasion, the Company also made a donation to the Vatican.
The Holy Father touched billions of lives in so many positive ways. His dedication inspired QI to capture and preserve his meritorious deeds in precious treasures. During His papacy, QI Directors were honoured to be granted audience with His Holiness twice, the first in May 2000 and then in December 2002.
